The aim of Plan and Design Engagement is to apply the process and key design concepts of IAP2 Australasia’s Engagement Model.

The objectives of Plan and Design Engagement are to:

  • Define the purpose and context for engagement
  • Interpret the needs and context of the organisation, stakeholders and the community
  • Select and define the roles and influence of the organisation, stakeholders and communities on the decision, action and form of engagement
  • Design engagement approaches for a range of purposes and situations
  • Reach and activate community and organisational participation
  • Integrate monitoring and evaluation into the engagement plan and activities

Facing Conflict
Engagement Institute Certificate of Engagement - Core and Electives Pathway

This one day course will help engagement practitioners understand the factors that contribute to conflict situations, how to identify triggers and how to respond effectively.

The aim of the course is to build on an individual engagement practitioner’s capability to work with conflict in engagement processes, including recognising people’s behaviours, developing personal practitioner skills and using appropriate facilitation tools.

The three areas of focus are:

  • Recognising people’s behaviours and emotions and why they occur in conflict situations.
  • Developing individual skills and abilities to manage the participant’s own responses in conflict situations and fulfil the practitioner’s role.
  • Using tools and/or strategies to facilitate engagement processes where conflict is present.

  • Be able to prepare a report to present at a senior level and/or to the decision-makers, and a report to the community and stakeholders involved/affected by the project or program.

Manage Contemporary Outrage

Manage Contemporary Outrage
Pre-requisites: Minimum 5 years managing & leading engagement projects AND completion of the IAP2A Certificate of Engagement.

This one day course explores conflict from the perspective of more pressured and enabled communities, and how to frame the responses from an organisational perspective.

Discover how to organisationally assess for and plan for engagement when there is a risk of differences of opinion, the contemporary drivers of anger and outrage in our organisations and communities, pressures in communities, conflict and emotion in the engagement process, stages of conflict escalation and conflict de-escalation, and how to Identify opportunities for building the capacity of your organisation to anticipate and respond to outrage.

The aim of this course is to assist engagement practitioners to de-escalate conflict, high emotion, and outrage situations and identify and develop strategies for building organisational capability and resilience.
